Egyptian cabinet releases video clarifying details on EG.5 coronavirus strain

The Egyptian Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center shared a video on Friday which showed Presidential Advisor for Health and Prevention Affairs Mohamed Awad Tag-Eddin clarifying several details about the EG.5 strain.

Tag-Eddin stated that the symptoms of the new strain remain the same as before. Those suffering from severe symptoms must go to the doctor immediately, he advised.

He added that while all respiratory viruses are contagious, the ability of each virus and mutation to spread its infection varies.

EG.5 is a secondary strain of the XBB variant of Omicron mutant.
