Egyptian envoy in Bucharest slams Israeli attempts to block Gaza-bound aid

Egyptian Ambassador to Romania Moayad al-Delei has slammed Israeli attempts to block humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

During a meeting with Romanian Foreign Minister Luminița Odobescu to discuss the situation in the Palestinian enclave and recent escalation, the diplomat said Israeli attempts to block the aid and force the Palestinians to leave their territory is considered a violation of the international humanitarian law.

The meeting was held upon a request from the Arab and Islamic group in Romania. It was àttended by the ambassadors of Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Qatar, Jordan, Indonesia and Pakistan, said the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on its Facebook page.

The ambassador called for exerting more efforts to cease fire and exchange prisoners and detainees, said the Foreign Ministry, pointing out that the diplomats also reviewed with the Romanian top diplomat the conditions in the West Bank and attacks by Jewish settlers on the Palestinians.

The Romanian foreign minister said that the conditions in the occupied territories became dangerous, adding she is in permanent contact with her counterparts to pressure Israel to reach a truce and deliver humanitarian aid to the Gazans.

She repeated her country’s stance on the importance of the two- state solution and rejection of the displacement on Palestinians.

She hailed efforts exerted by Egypt and Qatar in cooperation with other countries to achieve peace in the region.
