Egyptian, Kenyan presidents tackle importance of Nile file

CAIRO, April 27 (MENA) – President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stressed the importance of the Nile water file and opportunities for cooperation among Nile Basin countries for Egypt.

The remarks were made during a phone call with Kenyan President William Ruto on Monday to discuss developments in the Horn of Africa. Both leaders agreed to intensify consultation and political coordination to support peace and stability in the region.

Sisi praised the notable progress in bilateral relations between Egypt and Kenya, stressing the importance of further strengthening ties in areas of mutual interest, particularly in the economic, trade and investment fields, to achieve development goals for both countries, presidential spokesman Mohamed El Shenawy said.

The Kenyan president voiced agreement with Sisi’s remarks, commending the momentum in bilateral ties and affirming his country’s keenness to continue cooperation with Egypt in line with the deep-rooted fraternal and historical relations. He also expressed hope that Sisi would visit Kenya.

The spokesman noted that the call also tackled several regional issues of mutual concern, foremost developments in Sudan. Sisi reiterated Egypt’s firm stance on the Sudanese crisis, calling for an end to the conflict and humanitarian violations and stressing support for Sudan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national institutions, as well as Egypt’s efforts to restore peace and stability.

For his part, Ruto praised Egypt’s role in supporting Sudan and containing regional tensions and conflicts across Africa.

The call also addressed the Nile water issue and prospects for cooperation among Nile Basin countries, with Sisi underlining its critical importance for Egypt. Ruto, in turn, stressed his country’s commitment to reaching consensus among all relevant parties. Both leaders concluded by affirming continued and intensified coordination in the coming period.
