Egyptian man and son receive official recognition in Italy for heroic deed

An Egyptian man and his son received official recognition in Italy after they intervened to stop the suspect in a hit-and-run incident in the Italian city of Modena, preventing further casualties.

The governor of Modena praised the heroic actions of Osama Mohamed Shalaby and his son, Mohamed Osama, both from the village of Zenara in Tala district of Menoufia Governorate.

The Italian Minister of the Interior pledged to honor the two Egyptians in recognition of their bravery and their role in protecting citizens.

Videos circulating online showed the moment the suspect was apprehended, as well as scenes of the men being honored by officials in the city of Modena.

They managed to subdue the suspect after he carried out the attack, despite him brandishing a knife and attempting to assault passersby. According to accounts of the incident, the father and son courageously intervened to immobilize the suspect and restrain him until the Italian police arrived.

Sources from the village confirmed that the families of the two men received numerous calls from residents of Zenara after the videos of the incident and the subsequent tributes went viral, leading to a sense of immense pride amongst the villagers.
