Egyptian university students demand removal of top officials

Hundreds of Egyptian students from various universities continued to protest today, calling for the dismissal of top university officials who they claim belong to the regime of toppled president Hosni Mubarak.

Faculty members and students at Mansoura University are staging an open-ended strike to push for the removal of university president Ahmed Bayoumi Shehab al-Deen, his deputies and the deans of faculties.

Hundreds of students from the faculty of pharmacy protested to call for the removal of their dean and the head of the department of pharmacy, while students from the faculty of dentistry also staged a sit-in to call for their dean and heads of department to step down.

Meawhile hundreds of Cairo University mass communication students protested to call for the departure of their dean, Sami Abdel Aziz.

At Ain Shams University, students and professors called for the dismissal of university president Maged al-Deeb.

And at the German University in Cairo, dozens of students protested, demanding the formation of an independent student union.
