Egyptians in Kuwait pay fines for delay by Foreign Ministry

A Egyptian citizen based in Kuwait has shared her experience over her struggle to get birth certificates for passports for newborns in Kuwait.

“Egyptian citizens face penalties in Kuwait for surpassing the legal period allowed, which is two months, to get birth certificates and passports for newborns from Egypt through the Egyptian embassy, which takes six months to acquire,” said Didi al-Qady.

“Kuwaiti newspapers raised the issue and called on the Egyptian Foreign Ministry to help citizens avoid the fines imposed on them as result of the delay, but in vain,” Qady added, pointing out that Egypt is the only country that follows this policy with its citizens.

Moreover, “The Foreign Ministry takes fees for issuing such documents at ten times the cost of the fees in Egypt. For example, fees to get passports in Egypt are LE150, while the ministry gets 30 dinars, which is equal to LE750, for the passport.”
