Photos: Egypt’s army unveils new weapon against drones

Footage released by the Egyptian Armed Forces’ military spokesperson – showing live-fire military exercises – has revealed that Cairo possesses a new weapon designed to counter unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), RT reported on Friday.

The images show a locally manufactured laser system, designated “Egy-Hel-01,” designed to neutralize drones and projectiles and mounted on a pickup truck.

This marks the first time the system has been unveiled to the public.

The military spokesperson announced that Defense Minister Ashraf Salem Zaher attended the main phase of a live-fire tactical exercise conducted by a unit of the Second Field Army, with the participation of the Air Force, artillery, armored units, and special forces.

The main phase of the exercise involved the execution of combat operations to advance the offensive.

This included Air Force sorties for reconnaissance, security, and support, alongside artillery fire aimed at neutralizing and destroying enemy defenses.

The exercises included deploying armored and mechanized forces to breach and engage enemy defenses, supported by armed helicopters, while paratrooper and commando units carried out insertion and raid operations to destroy identified targets.
