ElBaradei condemns Arab world’s silence on Trump’s anti-Muslim statement

Nobel laureate and former Egyptian Vice President Mohamed ElBaradei condemned the Arab and Islamic world's silence toward the racist statement made by US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump against Muslims.

ElBaradei wrote on Twitter Wednesday: "The world is rising against the hate speech made by Trump. Why is the Arab/Islamic world silent? And why is the vision equating Islam with violence and looking at Muslims with a suspicious eye increasing?"

Trump should be legally punished for proposing that Muslims be banned from entering the United States, ElBaradei wrote Tuesday.

“Trump's speech is fighting words that inflict injury and promote violence. They should be condemned by all and punishable by law."

Trump’s call, which has drawn crticism from many, including the White House, was made as a suggestion to prevent further terrorist attacks following a shooting last week in San Bernardino, California that killed 14 people. The Federal Bureau of Investigation said the Muslim shooters had been “radicalized”.
