Elections Commission says only 6 international organizations were allowed to monitor referendum

The High Election Commission (HEC), presided by Cairo Appeal Court President Nabil Salib, denied news circulated on Friday and Saturday that the commission had accepted thousands of requests by international organizations to monitor the upcoming constitutional referendum.

“The number of accepted organizations has not been set yet. After checking the documents of nine international organizations that requested permission to monitor elections, only six who fulfilled the conditions were accepted,” the commission said on Saturday.

A total of 108 local organizations submitted requests to monitor the referendum, it added. Only six were approved as they fulfilled the required conditions, including registration at the Social Solidarity Ministry to practice democracy-related activities.
