Electricity minister, European official confer on bilateral cooperation

Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker met Sunday with Ditte Juul Jørgensen, Director General for Energy of the European Commission, to discuss means of booting bilateral cooperation.

Shaker reviewed achievements by the electricity sector in Egypt, noting that his Ministry is acting to spread uses of renewable energy.

He touched upon a state strategy that aims at increasing the contribution of renewable energy in the energy mix to 42% by 2030.

The electricity sector is keen on diversifying the sources of energy and electricity production, and on benefiting from Egypt natural wealth, particularly new and renewable energy, the minister stressed.

For her part, Jørgensen spoke highly of capabilities and expertise of the power and renewable energy sector in Egypt.

She stressed the importance of upping the volume of cooperation with the electricity sector in Egypt, especially the solar and wind energy.
