Electricity Minister: Two MoUs to establish coal-using generating station, rehabilitate seven stations

Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. Mohamed Shaker said that Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab witnessed the signing of two memoranda of understanding to generate electricity.

The Minister noted that the first memo was signed between Egypt’s Electricity Holding Company and the Alliance of Orascom and Saudi International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC).

This memo is meant to establish a power plant fueled by coal, with a capacity ranging between 2,400 and 3,000 MW in the Red Sea province, he added.

Minister Shaker explained that the Second memo was inked between Egypt’s Electricity Holding Company and the UAE Combustors to rehabilitate, upgrade and operate seven stations nationwide.
