EU to provide technical training assistance to Egypt

Manpower and Immigration Minister Ahmed Hassan al-Borai said Saturday that the European Union has decided to provide special assistance for technical training and education in Egypt.

He said an agreement that the EU will provide technical assistance programs from 2014 until 2020 was made on the sidelines of a European Training Foundation meeting held in Turin, Italy, last week.

Borai also said he had agreed with Italian government officials on certain amendments to the memorandum of understanding which regulates the flow of Egyptian workers to Italy, and that Egypt's Foreign Minister Nabil el-Arabi will sign it when visiting Rome next week.

"The amendments include a stipulation that Egyptian seasonal employees will enter Italy without paying fees for visas and work permits", said Borai. "It also includes a section which says that the Egyptian annual quota of workers should be brought to Italy through the Egyptian Ministry of Manpower after taking technical and language courses, according to the needs of the Italian market."
