Ex-FM: Egypt continues its intensive contacts with regional, international powers to stop Gaza war

CAIRO, Aug 20 (MENA) – Chairman of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Orabi asserted that Egypt continues its intensive contacts with regional and international powers to stop the war in the Gaza Strip and stave off more repercussions on the security and stability of the region.

Orabi made the remarks during a meeting with the Policy Advisor in the Middle East Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

The meeting addressed developments in the Gaza Strip, regional repercussions related to the ongoing conflict, as well as recent security and political developments in the region.

The two sides discussed efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, ways to alleviate the escalating humanitarian crisis in the enclave, alongside enhancing international and regional coordination to open safe humanitarian corridors allowing aid delivery and achieving calm as a prelude to resuming the political process.

Meanwhile, the Policy Advisor in the Middle East Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) explained that the United Kingdom is closely monitoring developments in Gaza, asserting her country’s support for international efforts aimed at ceasefire and alleviating humanitarian suffering.

She underlined the UK’s commitment to working with regional partners to achieve stability in the Middle East.

The meeting comes at a time when the region is witnessing an acceleration in political and diplomatic contacts to find a way out of the current crisis, amid alert of widening conflict and its impact on regional and international security. (MENA)
