Ex-housing minister slapped with travel ban

The attorney-general has reportedly sent a letter to the authorities at all of Egypt’s air, land and sea ports, notifying them that former housing minister Mohamed Soliman had been formally banned from leaving the country.

Soliman has been charged with violating the law by allocating land and real estate to certain businessmen and members of his family when serving as minister.

Prosecutors have summoned the businessmen in question, along with Soliman’s wife and sons, for investigation. Prosecutors are currently verifying documents that Soliman had submitted in an effort to vindicate himself.

Commenting on the charges, former criminal court president Saad Abdel Wahed said, "A minister is responsible for everything that happens in his ministry. He doesn’t just play a supervisory role."
