Experts blame worse air quality on temperature increases

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) predicted that thick fog will settle on Cairo and other provinces today. Citizens were advised to call off any travel via highways.

EMA experts said they expect a temporary drop in temperatures, leading to good weather today.

In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs acknowledged that Cairo is suffering from high pollution, which it attributes to an increase in temperatures, reaching as high as 38C, causing some rubbish dumps to catch fire.

The head of the National Research Institute for Astronomy and Geophysics, Salah Mohamed Mahmoud, and the head of the EMA, Momhamed Eissa, both confirmed that the autumn season has now begun as per its traditional timing, assuring that a recent rise in temperatures is normal due to climate changes witnessed on a world wide scale.

Meanwhile, the head of the EMA’s research unit, Wahid Saudi, said that temperatures last Thursday and Friday recorded a sharp rise reaching 38 degrees, marring the air with dust.
