Faculty staff salaries to decrease by 10%

The Finance Ministry and Central Auditing Agency's decision to decrease faculty staff salaries in accordance with the new Civil Service Law has angered university professors.

The cutbacks amount to 10 percent of salaries.

President of Cairo University Gaber Nassar said he would submit a memorandum to the Supreme Council of Universities and the Finance Ministry to cancel the implementation of this decision for full-time professors.

The spokesperson for the independent union for faculty staff, Mohamed Kamal, said the decision would incite anger throughout universities, in light of the faculty's demands to increase their current salaries, which do not at present cover their needs.

Kamal said escalatory steps are planned against the decision. He added that the decision would be exploited by the Muslim Brotherhood.
