Families of U.S. embassy staff leaving Cairo

Dozens of family members of U.S. embassy staff have left Cairo, after the speech given by President Mohamed Morsy on Tuesday evening stressed his intention to stay in power, said official sources at Cairo International Airport.

The American nationals who left Cairo on a German plane flying to Frankfurt included David Roger, husband to U.S. Ambassador Anne Patterson, accompanied by 18 other families of embassy staff, according to  sources. Another group left on an EgyptAir flight also heading to Frankfurt.

The sources also said that 22 American families of diplomats left on a Dutch plane flying to Amsterdam, and other nine left on a French plane.
