Fatah source: Hamas demands Qatar be involved in Gaza crisis

The London-based Al-Hayah newspaper quoted a Palestinian figure from Fatah movement on Wednesday as saying that Hamas movement requested from Egypt that Qatar plays a role in ending the crisis in Gaza.

Hamas also demanded that Egypt invites either the Qatari foreign minister or the intelligence chief to attend the talks, the Fatah source said.

“Egypt totally refused the proposal, unless Qatar officially apologized for its policies against Egypt that has been adopted since 30 June 2013,” he added.

The source also indicated that Qatar threatened recently to deport Khaled Meshaal, chief of Hamas politburo, if the movement approved the current form of the truce agreement.

Cairo mediates talks taking place between Hamas and Israel, which has been launching military operations against Gaza since beginning of July in response to missiles shot by the movement. More than 1,900 Palestinians and 60 Israeli soldiers were killed in the attacks.
