First aid boats at the ready for Sharm el-Sheikh’s UNCOP27 conference

As part of preparations for the  summit, the Sharm El-Sheikh seaport received the first of several first aid boats ready to serve visitors to the summit.

The 13-meter-long marine ambulance is equipped with an air-conditioned cabin that allows the transfer of three cases, two critical cases, and those in stable condition, explained the director of the South Sinai Ambulance Facility Mohamed Abdel Gawad.

He assured that the boat is medically equipped at the highest level, with an intensive care room, a respirator, vital signs equipment, an aspirator, a AED shock device for sudden cardiac arrest cases, multiple fracture fixation splints, and a central oxygen system.

It also has multiple rescue tools fitted to the marine environment such as life collars, and life jackets.

The boat moves at a speed of 20 knots/hour and is equipped with the best navigational equipment. Its crew consists of a pilot, two sailors, and two paramedics who have been trained on marine first aid, and maritime safety training.

Abdel Gawad stated that the purpose of the boat is to address cases of drowning, injuries, and quickly transfer cases of nitrogen poisoning.

 

A greener Sharm el-Sheikh

Sharm el-Sheikh is set to host the 27th session of the COP27 in November,

Egypt launched efforts to turn Sharm el-Sheikh into an eco-friendly city, with many projects to increase green spaces citywide and boost reliance on renewables used for transportation and hotels.

More than 30 environment-related projects were rolled out recently in the city, reported Egyptian state news agency MENA.

The government plans to develop 30-feddan central park in the city accordance with sustainability criteria, convert the city’s hotels to renewable energy sources and apply a new system for solid waste management through the private sector.

Work is also underway to upgrade Sharm el-Sheikh International Hospital to become the first green medical facility in Egypt and Africa through eco-friendly tools.
