Foreign minister flies to Jordan for brief visit

Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr headed to the Jordanian capital of Amman Monday for a brief visit during which he will meet with King Abdullah II.

Amr plans to inform the Jordanian king about local developments in Egypt ahead of holding the presidential election on 23 and 24 May.

The minister is also scheduled to meet with his Jordanian counterpart to consider ways to boost cooperation between the two countries as well as Arab and regional developments, especially Palestinian-related issues, the peace process in the Middle East and the situation in Syria.

During the visit, Amr is scheduled to inspect the polling station at the Egyptian Embassy in Amman.

Egyptian expatriates began voting Friday in the first presidential election since Hosni Mubarak’s ouster in February last year. Expat voting will run until 17 May, with the runoff scheduled to start 3 June.
