CAIRO, Nov 24 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty stressed the importance of implementing the UN Security Council resolution on Gaza and enabling the International Stabilization Force to carry out its mandate.
During his meeting on Monday with Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel on the sidelines of the Africa-Europe Summit, Abdelatty underlined Egypt’s keenness to advance its political, economic, and cultural relations with Portugal, reaffirming Cairo’s commitment to further deepen bilateral cooperation, particularly as the two countries mark the 50th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic ties.
He highlighted the need to maintain the momentum of cooperation and convene the third session of the Joint Committee to chart future frameworks for cooperation across areas of mutual interest.
The minister praised Portugal’s supportive positions toward Egypt within EU institutions, stressing the importance of building on the outcomes of the first Egypt-EU Summit held on October 22, especially the economic event held on its sidelines.
He said the summit pushed the strategic partnership between Egypt and the EU to broader horizons, expressing hope it will help attract further European investments to the Egyptian market, including Portuguese investments, particularly in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
Abdelatty also voiced aspiration for stronger bilateral cooperation in the field of migration, noting that cooperation should go beyond combating irregular migration to include regular migration, skills training, and employment.
He commended Portugal’s formal recognition of the State of Palestine last September and reviewed Egypt’s efforts over the past two years to end the war in Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid to the Strip. He stressed the need for international action to ensure the consolidation of the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Agreement and move forward with reconstruction efforts. (MENA)
