Foreign Minister: Egypt seeks to strengthen its position as a regional manufacturing hub

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty, who also serves as Egypt’s governor at the World Bank Group, stressed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening its position as a regional manufacturing hub.

Abdelatty made the remarks on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, during the fifth global Manufacturing Conference, organized by the World Bank Group in Cairo from October 26 to 28 under the theme “Manufacturing for Jobs, Value Addition and Prosperity,” with the participation of officials and representatives of international institutions and the private sector.

He said developing industrial capabilities was a priority in Egypt’s structural economic reform efforts, helping expand the production base, attract investment and integrate the Egyptian economy into regional and global value chains.

Abdelatty outlined national strategies to boost economic growth, enhance competitiveness and support industrial development in Africa, highlighting Egypt’s target of increasing non-oil exports to $100 billion by 2030 through localizing industries, components and production inputs and increasing domestic value added.

He also highlighted efforts to direct investment toward priority industries, particularly green and sustainable sectors, and facilitate access to industrial land and facilities, stressing the private sector’s role in localizing technology and creating sustainable jobs.

Abdelatty said Egypt’s strategic location, advanced infrastructure, large domestic market and skilled workforce make it attractive for industrial investment.

He stressed the importance of cooperation with international financial institutions and development partners to support technology transfer, skills development and access to financing, and enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian exports amid climate-related trade challenges.
