Foreign Ministry denies informing Vatican of ambassador appointment

The Foreign Ministry denied Sunday a report published by Al-Masry Al-Youm saying Cairo had informed the Vatican two weeks ago that Public Prosecutor Abdel Meguid Mahmoud was appointed as ambassador, ministry spokesperson Amr Roshdy said.

Al-Masry Al-Youm had quoted a senior source at the Vatican who said Cairo sent a request regarding the appointment 15 days ago, before last week’s acquittals in the Battle of the Camel case.

Judges found President Mohamed Morsy’s decision to fire Mahmoud an interference by the executive power in the independence of the judiciary, which forced Morsy to go back on his decision.
