Former minister investigated in case of Mrs. Mubarak’s secret account

Prosecutors are investigating the involvement of former Finance Minister Youssef Boutros-Ghali in the case of Susan Mubarak's secret bank account at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

Mrs. Mubarak, wife of deposed Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, held sole signatory power over the account and allegedly profited from international donations.

The Cairo Court of Appeals on Wednesday ruled to uncover the details of the account.

Bibliotheca Alexandrina Director Ismail Serag Eddin said he was unaware of the account's existence. Eddin called for the return of the account's US$145 million to the library.

Judicial sources also said Ghali was convicted previously in cases of wasting public funds and financing the former ruling National Democratic Party in violation of the law.
