Foundation launches Sisi-sponsored Arab Nobel prize

An Arab science foundation has launched an Arab youth innovation prize under the auspices of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
 
In a statement on Sunday, the Arab Science and Technology Foundation (ASTF) said it had launched its “Nobel Prize” for Arab development and innovation, noting that the competition seeks to connect scientific research with social and economic realities in the Arab region.
 
The competition focuses on innovative solutions for social issues in Egypt and the Arab region, including through the development of products marketable in the region.
 
The statement revealed that the prize is sponsored by the foundation in association with other partners, including the Egyptian Ministry of Health.
 
Areas of competition include innovative solutions for water desalination, renewable energy, biotechnology, agriculture, public health and other fields, the statement said.
 
Applications for the prize will open soon, said the foundation, noting that the four-month competition will end with the selection of three winners to be awarded with, financial prizes, medals and certified recognitions.
 
It said participants are required to submit ideas that are directly relevant to development and economic needs of the Arab societies, adding that people of all ages and specializations are encouraged to apply.
