Google celebrates 74th birthday of late Algerian singer Warda

Google Egypt celebrated on Monday the 74th birthday of deceased Algerian singer Warda.
 
On 22 July 1939, Warda was born to an Algerian father and a Lebanese mother in the French city of Puteaux.
 
In 1960, Warda came to Egypt upon an invitation by producer and director Helmy Rafla, who directed her first movie "Almaz and abdoul Hamouli." From then on, Warda stayed in Cairo, playing roles in such films as "Ah ya leil ya zaman," "Hekayti maa al-Zaman," "leih ya Donya" and "Sout al-Hobb."
 
Former President Gamal abdel Nasser was said to have requested that she sing a part in the famous song "Watani Habibi."
 
Warda passed away in her house in Cairo on 17 May 2012 after a heart attack. Upon the request of Algerian President abdel Aziz Bouteflika, she was transported on a military plane to the Algerian capital to be buried.
