Grand Egyptian Museum sees massive turnout at first opening day for public

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) witnessed a massive turnout on its opening day to the public, Tuesday, with visitors eager to be among the first to explore this unique cultural landmark.

According to booking and ticketing records, the number of visitors on Tuesday reached approximately 18,000, including both Egyptians and foreigners.

There was also a significant presence of local and international media outlets, which came specifically to cover this global event.

Visitors expressed their amazement at the museum’s unique architectural design, its vast spaces, and its distinctive halls, particularly the one dedicated to Tutankhamun.

They also praised the exceptional exhibition scenarios and the comprehensive visitor experience, which includes museum halls, facilities, and accompanying cultural and recreational services.

They affirmed that the museum represents an unprecedented cultural addition to Egypt’s global tourism and cultural standing.

Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy described the day as a historic moment for Egypt and the world.

He stated that the GEM more than just a museum showcasing magnificent artifacts and the rich history of Egyptian civilization, but embodies a complete cultural and civilizational experience.

The overwhelming turnout the museum is witnessing reflects the passion of the Egyptian and international public to visit the GEM, he said, and is a true testament to Egypt’s leading position on the global tourism map.

The CEO of the GEM, Ahmed Ghoneim, expressed his delight at the great success of the first day of public opening.

He noted that this turnout reinforces the museum’s mission to provide an exceptional museum experience that integrates modern technology with the greatest treasures of Egyptian civilization.

Work continues to provide further services and organize cultural and educational programs to ensure that the GEM becomes a primary destination for visitors from all over the world, he said.
