Health official: 3 dead, 137 injured near Abbasseya cathedral

Three people have been crushed to death and 137 injured near the St. Mark’s Coptic Cathedral in Abbasseya since yesterday, a Health Ministry official said Monday.

Hesham Shiha, head of the ministry’s therapeutic medicine sector, said 65 of the injured were transferred to Dar al-Shifa, Demerdash, Helmiya Military and Zahraa University hospitals, while 72 suffering from breathing difficulties were treated on-site.

All of the patients were discharged from the hospitals after their conditions improved, except for 10 who are still receiving treatment, Shiha said.

He said one of the patients still being treated is in Dar al-Shifa Hospital, six are in Demerdash Hospital, two are in Zahras University Hospital and one is in Helmiya Military Hospital.

The ministry dispatched 30 ambulances with the necessary equipment and medical supplies, in addition to two mobile clinics and a mobile pharmacy, to the area.
