Interior Ministry suspends policemen over alleged attack against doctors

The Interior Ministry has decided to suspend the policemen who allegedly attacked doctors last Thursday, said Major General Abu Bakr Abdel Kareem, deputy minister for public relations and information.

In a phone call with a talk show aired on the privately-owned TV channel  Al-Assem on Saturday, Abdel Kareem said, “a policemen was injured by a drug dealer. The doctor did not believe surgery was needed, after which a verbal altercation occured followed by clashes.”

“The Cairo security chief suspended the policemen and referred the issue to investigation. We are keen on relations with people and changing the police’s image,” he added.

A video published on Thursday by Egyptian news portal Mobtada featured a doctor detailing the purported assault against him by low-ranking policemen as he attempted to provide one of them with healthcare. It showed doctor Ahmed Abdallah describing what happened while he was working in the early hours of Thursday.
