Iranian FM supports Egypt’s steps toward democracy

The spokesperson of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Marzieh Afkham, said her country supports Egypt, adding that the presidential elections were a move toward fostering democracy.

Meanwhile, Egypt, according to IRNA, invited Iranian President Hassan Rohani to attend Sisi's inauguration in the next few days.

Afkham added that Iranian officials said they have been keen on developing diplomatic relations with Egypt over the past few years.

Cairo and Tehran had severed relations after a peace treaty between Egypt and Israel was signed, as well as the ouster of Iran's Shah in an Islamic revolution in 1979.
