Medical official: 4 injured in blast outside Alexandria banK

Four people were injured in an explosion in the vicinity of an HCBS bank east of the coastal city of Alexandria on Saturday, a medical official said.

Mohamed al-Sharqawy, Alexandria's security director, said an improvised explosive device went off outside the bank, in the Sidi Beshr neighbourhood.

Another blast was also reported at the Kom al-Dekka district in central Alexandria, leaving no injuries yet destroying a number of vehicles, shops and buildings nearby.

Militancy in Egypt has seen a significant rise since July 2013, after the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi following mass protests against his rule.

While most attacks target security forces in North Sinai, operations have been carried out elsewhere including in Cairo.

As the date for Egypt's Economic Development Conference approached, attacks targeting multinational shops and restaurants were reported more frequently.

A deadly blast took place outside a major hypermarket branch in Alexandria last Sunday, killing one.

The economic conference kicked off from the resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh on Friday and is due to conclude tomorrow.
