Microbus crash kills 4, injures 14 south of Cairo

Four people died and 14 others were injured when a microbus overturned near Beni Suef, south of Cairo, according to a security source.

The source said the car was traveling from Cairo to Beni Suef when it crashed near the city of Samusta. Tthe injured were escorted to al-Edwa hospital in Minya Governorate.

The four fatalities ranged in age from 14 to 34. The injured are all from Assiut, according to the source.

Traffic accidents are the second highest cause of death in Egypt. On average, 30 people die in traffic incidents each day, according to one expert. In 2009, an average of 18 people died per day, according to a government report.

Bad road conditions, traffic law violations, and intoxicated drivers are blamed for the rising rate of traffic deaths.
