Military source denies appointing new presidential chief of staff

A military source has denied reports that Major General Abdel Momen Abdel Baseer Fouda was appointed presidential chief of staff.

The source said he was assigned to supervise the presidency’s administrative and financial committee.

Reports had circulated online that Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, head of the ruling military council, appointed Fouda to succeed Zakariya Azmy, who currently stands trial on charges of illicit gains. Azmy had served under former President Hosni Mubarak.
