Military source denies suspending security crackdown in Sinai

A military official denied suspending the crackdown on radical groups in Sinai during Eid al-Fitr on Saturday, reported the state news agency MENA.

A number of news websites and channels had reported that authorities decided to suspend Operation Eagle in Sinai during Eid, which begins Sunday and ends Tuesday.

The armed forces in cooperation with police launched a crackdown in Sinai against radical groups suspected of attacking a checkpoint in Rafah, killing 16 soldiers and injuring of seven others. The operation has been labeled the largest of its kind.
