Minister flies to Jordan after Egyptians die in fireworks explosion

Egypt’s Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Minister Nabila Makram left to Jordan early Tuesday to follow up on the condition of Egyptians wounded in an explosion in the Jordanian capital of Amman on Monday.

The blast occurred on two fireworks-laden trucks, leaving five Egyptians dead. The ministry said in a statement that eight were wounded in the same incident.

The trucks were located in a customs checkpoint in Amman, though Jordan banned the import of fireworks in 2009. The cause of the explosion is unknown at this time.
