Minister: Numbers of universities doubled since 2014

Minister of High Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour asserted a quantum leap has been achieved in the high education sector since 2014, given the total number of students in higher education was estimated at one million in nine years.

That came in a series of videos and infographics, released by the Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center, which published an interview with the minister regarding the most important positive steps achieved in this vital sector and the future action plans to promote its growth tracks.

In 2014, 2.3 million pupils studied in 50 universities nationwide, Ashour said, adding that there were nearly 3.3 million students learning in 92 universities in the country by end of 2022.

That means the State doubled the number of its universities to absorb this annual increase in numbers of students, he added.

Each governorate has a public university and private and Ahliya universities, the minister affirmed, referring to updating educational programs in universities to help the students meet the labor market requirements.
