MP investigated for assaulting university security guard

Head of Fayoum University Khaild Hamza and a number of security officials at the university were summoned by prosecution authorities on Wednesday over an incident involving a parliamentarian assaulting a female security guard.

According to local media reports, the prosecution authorities have opened an investigation with the university’s senior security official who accused MP Mangowd El-Hawary of deliberately slapping her in her face.

A week ago, MP Mangowd El Hawary, representing the town of al-Nawras in Fayoum governorate, had his car smashed by Fayoum University students inside the campus after he assaulted the guard, according to state-run Akhbar al-Youm.

Photos and video footage that have been circulated on social media show the university students smashing the MP’s car.

The incident followed the guard in question refusing to allow the MP’s daughter to enter the university campus without showing her university ID. The daughter responded by calling her father to the campus who then assaulted the guard.
