Museum of Ice Cream to open in New York

The ice cream pop-up museum, just down the block from the Whitney Museum of American Art, will be open for one month only this summer…

The opening of the Museum of Ice Cream will coincide with the conclusion of National Ice Cream Month, with the space officially opening on July 29 and remaining accessible throughout August. The inauguration day will allow visitors to explore the museum and enjoy an ice cream tasting for free.

From Meatpacking to cone-licking

The new Museum of Ice Cream in New York’s “Meatpacking” district will delight the sweet-toothed and children (if only at heart) among us. Dive into the swimmable (but sadly not edible) rainbow sprinkle pool, melt into the immersive chocolate room, join in the fun with a giant collaborative ice cream sundae, and float away on a sugar cloud with edible balloons. Scientist and Food Futurist Doctor Irwin Adam will also be on call to concoct one-of-a-kind ice cream tastings.

If you’re not into gastronomic adventures, find your ideal flavor match with the museum’s Tinder Land app instead. The “Scoop of the Week” will be produced by some of the city’s most experienced cold treat professionals, such as Black Tap and OddFellows Ice Cream Company.

Full? Burn off the calories with a ride on an ice cream sandwich made for two or the ice cream scooper see-saw, or browse the unique visual designs created by some of New York’s most renowned artists.

A ‘lick-able, likeable, shareable’ experience

As the website’s introductory text would imply, the museum is actively encouraging visitors to share (like and lick) its content on social media. Its Instagram account is already active, with nearly 9,000 followers at the time of writing, under @museumoficecream and using the hashtag #MOIC. New to the ice cream dream team is the graphic designer Lizzie Darden (52,000 followers on Instagram) who is creating digital content for the Museum.
