The Muslim Brotherhood may amend its bylaws in the near future, a process requiring the cooperation of the Brotherhood’s different administrative bodies. The Brotherhood will change its bylaws in the coming weeks, said Helmi el-Gazzar, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Shura Council. The Guidance Bureau has asked all administrative offices in the governorates to pinpoint the weaknesses in the current regulations, he added.
The Guidance Bureau may request suggestions from the administrative offices, but that is where its role stops, said el-Gazzar, adding that the Shura Council will be responsible for actually introducing the changes into the bylaws.
A committee has been assigned with the task of gathering the suggestions from the administrative offices, added el-Gazzar, which will then be submitted to the Guidance Bureau and on to the Shura Council.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Gamal Heshmat, a member of the Shura Council, said only the council has the exclusive right to address changes to the group’s bylaws. In response to a question on the suggested changes, Heshmat said there should be a separation of power between the groups, with each institution’s jurisdiction being clearly defined.
