MP Amr Hamzawy: Now not the time for cabinet removal

The cabinet of incumbent Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri has failed to offer a successful plan to get through the transitional period, but removing it is not a realistic political option, liberal MP Amr Hamzawy said Monday.

It is clear that Parliament has the ability and the authority to withdraw confidence from the government, Hamzawy said during a People's Assembly session on Monday.

But the real question is how politically expedient the move would be in the current situation, he added.

"Do we really need a confidence vote on the government? Do we want to withdraw confidence now?" Hamzawy asked, addressing other MPs.

Hamzawy also noted that Egypt is in a political gridlock due to disagreements over the formation of the Constituent Assembly, which is tasked with drafting the new constitution.

He called for reconsidering the formation through the Parliament.
