Officials extend deadline for election monitor applications

Abdel Moez Ibrahim, president of the High Elections Committee, has extended the deadline for civil society organizations to apply for permits to monitor November parliamentary elections to 19 November.

Abdel Moez explained that the extension came at the behest of the National Council for Human Rights.

Meanwhile, Al-Masry Al-Youm has obtained a copy of Resolution 24/2011, which regulates nominations for parliamentary elections and clarifies that if a candidate attempts to run in both a single-winner race and on a party list, the candidate will only be considered in the list-based race.

Electoral lists with any ambiguity regarding who heads each list will not be accepted. The resolution also states that the elections committee will only consider the last submitted list for any party that registers more than one.
