One World Foundation launches campaign promoting Information Act

The One World Foundation has launched a campaign in 27 governorates to promote the issuance of the Information Act by incorporating it in the electoral programs of the candidates running in the parliamentary election.

Foundation Director Maged Sorour said the campaign aims to achieve freedom of access to information so as to assert transparency and integrity in all government agencies, especially in the health and education sectors.

He said the members of the next parliament have legislative powers and can put pressure on the government to combat corruption. “They can bring the government to account before civil society organizations and citizens,” he said.

He said the Information Act is mentioned in Article 68 of the Constitution, which states that citizens have the right to access information and that the government is obliged to disclose it transparently. It is also a manifestation of the national anti-corruption strategy announced by the government last December as part of actions taken to combat corruption and ensure institutional reform.
