The General Secretariat of the People’s Assembly rejected a proposal submitted by 100 Muslim Brotherhood (MB) and independent MPs to discuss a bill on political rights drafted by the "Egyptians for Free Elections" movement, headed by former Alexandria Judges Club Chairman Mahmoud Khodeiry.
"They said the proposal violated parliamentary bylaws stipulating that such proposals should not be submitted by more than ten MPs at a time," explained Hamdi Hassan, spokesman for the MB’s parliamentary bloc. "So we withdrew our initial proposal and resubmitted it in ten copies, each of which is signed by ten MPs."
Nevertheless, the secretariat remained firm in its rejection of the proposal, saying the move constituted a violation of rules and regulations.
