Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi called for accelerating work on the Assiut diesel production complex to help reduce imports and boost local supply.
During a virtual meeting of Assiut National Oil Processing Company (ANOPC), the minister said that the project plays an important role in increasing domestic production and providing diesel that meets European (Euro 5) standards, especially for Upper Egypt.
He stressed the need to complete the remaining work on schedule while maintaining safety standards during implementation.
Meanwhile, the company officials stated that the project aims to achieve self-sufficiency in diesel in Upper Egypt and reduce imports. The complex is expected to produce about 2.8 million tons of diesel annually, along with other petroleum products.
They added that construction progress has reached about 88%, with trial operations planned by the end of the year.
