The Egyptian community in Romania announced the arrival of 23 Egyptian students studying in Ukraine to the Romanian borders, at dawn on Saturday.

The students waited for several hours at the border, until they were allowed to enter and moved to the city of Cluj-Napoca to rest until they move on Sunday from the capital Bucharest back to Egypt on a plane taking off at three am.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Thursday the start of a large-scale military operation in the Donbas region of Ukraine.

The Egyptian Minister of Immigration and Egyptians Expatriates Affairs Nabila Makram held a meeting on Saturday with representatives of the Egyptian community in Ukraine, which included some Egyptian students present in various Ukrainian cities, to follow up on their conditions in light of developments in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

Makram urged Egyptians in Ukraine to abide by the places they are staying in and not to leave, especially in the areas in the east and south seeing heavy clashes.

Egyptians who are able to leave towards Romania and Poland should inform the Egyptian embassy in Kiev first, and communicate immediately with the Egyptian embassies in the two countries, until the relevant authorities there are addressed, she added.

MP Ehab Ramzy, a member of the Legislative Committee in the House of Representatives, called on Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to form a ministerial committee to manage the Egyptian students studying in Ukraine.

Ramzy submitted an EDM to Parliament Speaker Hanafi al-Gebali, asking him to address Madbouly, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, and Minister of Immigration and Egyptians Expats Nabila Makram, to establish an airlift for the speedy return of Egyptian students from Ukraine.

“There is no data that reassures the students’ families on their children, and we do not know what measures the government has taken to solve the problems faced by the Egyptian students inside Ukraine after the Russian war against Ukraine,” noting that there is great concern among the families of Egyptian students in Ukraine,” he said.
