Planning min. urges immediate measures to confront climate risks

Planning and Economic Development Minister Hala el Saeed underlined the importance of taking immediate measures to confront climate risks.

She said governments should work collectively to turn to low-carbon economy in addition to greening national investment plans.
She made the remarks on Wednesday 19/4/2023 during a side event organized by her ministry in tandem with the United Nations Development Program and the UN Science-Policy-Business Forum on the Environment.
The event was held on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the Financing for Development (FfD) Forum which is organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
She said climate change poses grave danger to humanity, noting that Africa contributes only about 6 percent to global carbon emissions.
She noted that Egypt launched the environment sustainability standards guide in 2019 to realize a quantum leap in the role played by the government and the private sector to accelerate transition to green economy.
She added that green projects represent 40 percent of the 2022-2023 public investments.
She referred also to Egypt’s launch of an initiative for greening national investment plans in Africa and developing countries on the fringe of the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP27, which it hosted in its Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh last year.
