Police checkpoint fired on in North Sinai

Yet another police checkpoint in North Sinai was attacked on Sunday, when unknown assailants driving a four-wheel-drive vehicle fired at it with automatic weapons and drove away.

Security sources were unable to identify the identity of the perpetrators or the reason for the attack.

Meanwhile, army and police troops raided villages in central Sinai and arrested suspects in recent attacks on police in Sheikh Zuwayed and Rafah. The troops also found six policemen who were kidnapped on the Egyptian-Israeli border two hours after they disappeared.

Smugglers and drug dealers are suspected to have kidnapped the policemen.
