CAIRO, Oct 19 (MENA) – President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday received a phone call from Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre to discuss the latest developments in Gaza and the current efforts to restore regional stability.
During the call, President Sisi praised Norway’s recognition of the Palestinian state in May 2024, describing it as a strong step that supports the two-state solution, Presidency Spokesman Mohamed al-Shennawy said.
The Norwegian prime minister congratulated Sisi on the success of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit and praised Egypt’s intensive efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza.
He reaffirmed Norway’s commitment to humanitarian support and a political solution that includes a gradual role for Palestinians excluding Hamas in managing the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, President Sisi reviewed Egypt’s coordination with international partners to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, facilitate humanitarian aid, and prepare for the reconstruction of Gaza.
In this regard, he announced Egypt’s intention to host an international conference focused on early recovery and reconstruction efforts and expressed interest in strong Norwegian participation.
The two sides also reviewed rapid development in bilateral cooperation, seen particularly following President Sisi’s visit to Norway in December 2024. (MENA)
