Environment Minister Khaled Fahmy told the Middle East News Agency on Thursday that the ministry is replacing the primitive lump charcoal burners with environment-friendly furnaces whose emissions and pollutants are less than the legally permitted rates.
“We are introducing new environment-friendly mechanisms for the production and storage of coal in order to protect public health,” he said.
Primitive lump charcoal exports have been banned unless permission is obtained from the Environment Ministry.
