Rights organization collects testimonies of citizens who failed to get public information

The Support for Information Technology Center has launched a campaign to collect the testimonies of citizens who failed to obtain information requested from government bodies.

The campaign, which comes in the context of a wider debate about circulating public information in accordance with Article 68 of the Egyptian Constitution, which confirms the right of citizens to access information, data, statistics and official documents as being the "property of the people."

The center called on citizens to file their testimonies.

The Legislative Reform Committee is currently preparing a draft law on the subject. Former bills have stirred controversy due to their incompatibility with international standards, and the lack of a clear definition of national security.

A number of civil society organizations have sinced proposed laws that balance between the right to access to information and the requirements of national security, the Support for Information Technology Center said in a statement on Monday.
